South African multi-strategy hedge funds topped the tables in October, with the category adding a median 1.77% for the month, while the broader HedgeNews Africa South Africa Single Manager composite gained 1.55%.

By comparison, the FSTE/JSE All Share Index rose 1.64% for the month while South Africa’s All Bond Index added 2.56%. The MSCI World rose 1.94% and the MSCI Frontier Markets Africa Index added 2%.
Long/short funds delivered a category median of 1.7% for the month while fixed income funds gained 1.2% and market neutral and quantitative funds added 0.79%.
Pan African equity funds were strong in October, with the Pan African median adding 3.77%.
South African fund of funds continued to progress, delivering a median 1.52% for the month.
