The HedgeNews Africa South Africa Single-Manager Composite continued its steady advance, adding 1.67% in May to sit 3.89% higher for the year so far.

Long/short equity funds led for the month, adding a median 2.59%, whilst the FTSE/JSE All Share Index rose 3.14% and South Africa’s All Bond Index gained 2.7%.
Further afield, the MSCI World Index rose 5.6% for the month, the MSCI Emerging Markets Index gained 4% and the MSCI Frontier Markets Africa Index gained 2.82%.
Single-manger multi-strategy funds gained a median 1.79% in May, while fixed income funds added 1.46% and market neutral and quantitative funds gained 1.17%.
Amongst pan African mandates, both equity and fixed income funds were positive.
South African fund of hedge funds had a strong May, adding 1.76%.
