
Long/short equity funds topped the performance tables in June, for the third month in a row, adding 2.43% as the HedgeNews Africa South Africa Single Manager Composite gained 1.57% for the month.
By comparison the FTSE/JSE All Share Index rose 2.35% and South Africa’s All Bond Index gained 2.31%. Further afield, the MSCI World Index added 4.22% and the MSCI Emerging Markets Index rose 5.65%.
Single manager multi-strategy funds were the next best category in June, rising 1.72%, while fixed income funds were a median 1.39% higher and market neutral and quantitative funds added a median 1%.
Pan African funds continued their year-to-date advance, with their Pan Africa/AME median gaining 4.7%.
South African fund of hedge funds closed out a steady first half with a median 1.29% gain in June.
