Composite edges higher in tricky month

South African hedge funds edged 0.31% higher in February as equities and bonds ended broadly flat after a complicated month.

The FTSE/JSE All Share Index dipped -0.01% and the All Bond Index added 0.07%, while the MSCI World Index lost -0.81% and the MSCI Emerging Markets Index gained 0.35%.

Fixed income funds were the strongest category, adding a median 0.69%, while multi-strategy hedge funds inched forwards by 0.02%.

Long/short equity funds edged 0.05% higher for the month while the market-neutral and quantitative category moved a median -0.44% lower in February.

Pan African mandates added a median 1.1% as the MSCI Frontier Markets Africa Index returned 3.47%.
