36ONE Hedge Fund*
The 36ONE Prescient Retail Hedge Fund is a single strategy, equity long/short hedge fund, with a moderate net equity bias. This fund invests predominantly in South African listed equities, as well as offshore listed equities, and other financial instruments to enhance returns and manage risk. We have a long-term track record and currently manage ~R15 billion in long/short hedge strategies. We aim to grow investors’ capital in real terms and deliver positive absolute returns over the long term, irrespective of market direction. Our objective is to achieve this with lower volatility by actively managing the risks associated with equity investing.
Investment team
Cy Jacobs is the lead portfolio manager and is supported by a strong investment team made up of 16 investment professionals - a group of exceptional, highly experienced and multi-disciplined individuals. Cy is one of the co-founders of 36ONE and heads up the investment team. He has over 3 decades of experience in the industry and holds a BCom, BAcc and is a CA (SA).

Strategy
Our investment approach is centred on the belief that markets do not always price securities efficiently. We seek to identify mispriced opportunities through rigorous bottom-up fundamental analysis and disciplined stock selection, with the aim of delivering long-term outperformance. Risk management is a core component of our investment philosophy and is embedded throughout the portfolio management process. Macroeconomic views play a supporting role in portfolio construction, helping to inform overall portfolio positioning and risk.
