Hedge funds solid in April

The HedgeNews Africa South African Single-Manager Composite had a solid April, gaining a median 1.41% as South African equities and bonds were positive.

By comparison, the MSCI World lost -3.85% and the MSCI Emerging Markets Index gained 0.26%.

Long/short equity funds were the strongest category, gaining a median 2.05% to sit 4.42% higher on the year, while the FTSE/JSE All Share added 2.95% and is now just 0.64% higher so far in 2024.

Multi-strategy funds were the next strongest category, adding a median 1.8% in April to sit 2.11% higher for the year so far, while market neutral and quantitative funds gained a median 0.94%.

Fixed income hedge funds rose a median 0.41% for the month to sit 1.31% ahead on the year, while the All Bond Index added 1.47% in May to take its year-to-date return to -0.63%. Copyright. HedgeNews Africa – May 2024.
