South African hedge funds gained a median 0.75% in April, led by multi-strategy funds, which added 1.24%.
By comparison most equity markets were positive for the month, with the FTSE JSE All Share Index adding 3.38% and the All Bond Index down -1.17%.
The MSCI World Index gained 1.59% while the MSCI Emerging Markets Index declined by -1.34% and the MSCI Frontier Markets Africa Index lost -1.51%.
Long/short equity funds added a median 1.05% in April, while market neutral and quantitative funds rose a median 0.29% and fixed income funds were flat. Copyright. HedgeNews Africa – May 2023.
