South African hedge funds were positive in October, adding a median 0.88% to sit 6.59% higher for the year.
This compares with a 3.14% gain from the FTSE/JSE All Share Index and a 0.35% decline from the South African All Bond Index.
Multi-strategy funds were the biggest gainers for the month, adding a median 1.38% to sit 8.86% higher year to date, while market neutral and quantitative funds also made good headway, gaining a median 1.17% to sit 6.02% in the green year to date.
Long/short equity funds rose a median 0.81% to sit 8.36% higher year for the year so far.
Fixed income funds continued to make gains in October, adding a median 0.75% to settle 7.54% higher year on the year.
