Funds in the HedgeNews Africa database were broadly positive in October, with many significantly outperforming the FTSE/JSE All Share Index.
The HedgeNews Africa South African Single-Manager Composite added a median 0.79%, while the HedgeNews Africa Single-Manager Composite, which includes Africa- and global-focused mandates, advanced a median 0.83%.
By comparison, the FTSE/JSE All Share Index added 0.19% for the month, while the South African All Bond Index added 0.51%.
By category, long/short equity made the biggest move in October, adding a median 1.11%, while market neutral and quantitative funds had their third best month this year, adding a median 1.06%.
