South African hedge funds recorded their second positive monthly return for the year, adding a median 0.84% in February, to sit 1.52% higher year to date, in a volatile month which saw the stock market decline while bonds were strong.
Fixed income was once again the best performing strategy, with the HedgeNews Africa Fixed Income Index adding a median 2.09% in February to sit 3.35% higher year to date.
Amongst equity-focused strategies, the HedgeNews Africa Long/Short Equity Index added a median 0.52% to sit 1.08% higher year to date, while the HedgeNews Africa Market Neutral and Quantitative Index sits 0.82% higher on the year after advancing a median 0.72% for the month.
