South African funds in the HedgeNews Africa database made steady progress in July with the HedgeNews Africa South African Single-Manager Composite adding a median 1.09% to sit 3.98% higher year to date.
The HedgeNews Africa Single-Manager Composite, which includes the performance of Africa-focused portfolios, gained a median 1.31% for the month, leaving it 5.38% higher over the first seven months.
Long/short equity was the best-performing South African strategy for the month, adding a median 1.57%, while market neutral and quantitative funds recorded their first negative return in 10 months, dipping 0.37%.
Multi-strategy funds added a median 1.13% while fixed income hedge funds enjoyed their second-best month this year, adding 1.01%.
