MERGENCE INVESTMENT MANAGERS

Mergence is a registered financial services provider in the regions where we operate. In our role as a fund manager, we make investment decisions on behalf of our clients, which primarily include retirement funds, medical schemes, trusts, multi-managers, and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs). Our core duties encompass portfolio management, risk management, research and analysis, asset allocation, executing buy and sell transactions, monitoring performance, maintaining client communication, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. We assist investors in realising their financial objectives by expertly managing the investments within our entrusted mandates.

Investment team

Mergence maintains a skilled and experienced investment team. Below are the individuals responsible for managing our private market mandates.

Kasief Isaacs, a chartered accountant with 17 years’ financial services experience, joined Mergence in 2015. He leads the private markets investment team, focusing on energy, infrastructure, and impact in SA and SADC.

Chito Siame, registered with ACCA with a Masters in Commerce, joined Mergence in 2011 as an equity analyst. In 2015, he moved to the private markets team, where, as an investment principal, he concentrates on SADC opportunities.

Mosa Molebatsi, a CFA charterholder with a Masters in Philosophy and Honours in Commerce, joined Mergence in 2023 as a senior investment associate in the private markets team. Her prior experience includes roles at the International Finance Corporation and the Public Investment Corporation. 

Mohamed Ismail, a CFA charterholder with an Executive Masters in Finance, joined Mergence in March 2021 as head of fixed income. With 14 years’ experience, he is the primary portfolio manager for the Mergence Infrastructure & Development | Bond Composite Fund and leads the investment management of the money market and multi-asset income portfolios.

Investment capability

Mergence has a diverse array of asset management capabilities, providing clients with a range of savings and investment solutions. In the private markets, we have been at the forefront of impact and infrastructure investing. Since 2010, we have successfully launched five innovative funds, featuring both debt and equity investments in sectors like renewable, affordable housing, water, financial inclusion (via SSME support), transport, and health.
Alternative assets, particularly infrastructure, offer strategic advantages by enhancing portfolio diversification. They provide returns that are not correlated with other asset classes, act as a hedge against inflation, deliver long-term, stable, and risk-adjusted returns, and contribute to creating positive social impact, ultimately benefiting the communities where our investors may retire into.
