South African hedge funds added 0.95% in August, led by multi-strategy funds, which gained a median 1.41%.
By comparison, the FTSE/JSE All Share Index added 3.47% for the month while South Africa’s All Bond Index added 0.69%. The MSCI World Index rose 2.48% and the MSCI Emerging Markets Index gained 3.21%.
Market neutral and quantitative funds gained a median 0.47%, while the fixed income category added 0.29% and long/short funds rose 0.27%.
Fund of hedge funds added a median 1.51% for the month.
