South African fixed income hedge funds were the strongest category in November, gaining a median 1.74% while the broader HedgeNews Africa South Africa Single Manager Composite added 1.28% for the month.

By comparison, the FTSE/JSE All Share Index rose 1.7% for the month while South Africa’s All Bond Index gained 3.4%. The MSCI World Index rose 0.18% for the month and the MSCI Frontier Markets Africa Index lost 4.09%.
Long/short equity funds were the next strongest category, gaining a median 1.29% in November.
Single-manager multi-strategy funds added a median 0.78% for the month while market neutral and quantitative funds gained 0.54%.
Pan African equity mandates had a negative month as the broader universe declined, while African fixed income was stronger, with the Pan-Africa/AME category returning a median -0.99%.
South African fund of hedge funds added 0.9% in November, sit 12.45% higher for the first 11 months of the year.
