South African hedge funds delivered solid gains across all strategies in December, gaining a median 1.06% to end the year 7.87% higher after a 5.18% gain the year before.
Long/short equity funds made the biggest move, gaining a median 2.22% to end the year 11.01% higher.
Market neutral and quantitative funds had their best year since 2015, adding a median 0.78% in December and 7.45% for the year.
Multi-strategy funds added a median 1.06% to end the year 9.48% in the green, while fixed income funds rose 1.03% in December to end the year 9.15% higher.
