Funds in the HedgeNews Africa database continued to make gains through March as the HedgeNews Africa South African Single-Manager Composite added a median 0.94% to advance 2.53% over the first quarter.
The broader HedgeNews Africa Single-Manager Composite, which includes Africa-focused mandates, added a median 2.22% in the first quarter, including 0.73% in March.
Fixed income was the best performing South African strategy in March, adding a median 1.32% for the month to sit 2.88% higher for the year.
Multi-strategy was the next best performing strategy, gaining a median 0.98% to end the quarter 2.06% higher.
Equity strategies also had a good first quarter, with market-neutral outperforming long/short equity in March, adding a respective 0.76% (1.8% for Q1) and 0.45% (2.2% for Q1). Copyright. HedgeNews Africa – March 2017.
