Investment philosophy 

Our investment approach is a fundamental bottom-up process. Our team performs detailed fundamental analysis of the underlying investments focusing on the sustainability of a business model, quality of management, corporate governance, predictability of cashflows, balance-sheet strength and a compelling valuation.

Mazi Long Short FR Retail Hedge Fund

The fund is the continuation of the firms longstanding Long Short fund, which was converted into a Retail Investor Hedge Fund on 1 August 2026. The fund aims to provide investors with long-term positive real returns uncorrelated to the South African capital markets, by leveraging the team’s collective insights, both fundamental bottom up and those generated by our NextGen team. The fund can invest in a wide range of assets, such as shares, equities, debt instruments (both sovereign and corporate), derivatives, commodities, preference shares, money market instruments, unit trusts, closed-end funds and ETFs, both in South Africa and internationally.
The fund is managed by Malungelo Zilimbola and Francois Olivier.
