
South African single-manager hedge funds added a median 0.91% in July, with all categories in positive territory led by multi-strategy funds, which gained 2.24%.
By comparison, the FTSE/JSE All Share Index gained 1.18% for the month and South Africa’s All Bond Index lost -1.38%. The MSCI World Index added 0.46% while the MSCI Emerging Markets Index fell -3.31%.
Long/short equity funds gained a median 0.83% for the month to sit 0.09% higher year to date against a JSE index decline of -1.81% for the year so far.
Market neutral and quantitative funds were a median 0.76% higher for the month, while fixed income funds rose 0.34%.
South African fund of hedge funds gained a median 0.96% for the month.
