NINETY ONE FIXED INCOME HEDGE FUND

Ninety One is a global investment manager offering active strategies across equities, fixed income, multi-asset and alternatives to institutions, advisors and individual investors around the world. Established in South Africa in 1991, we are an independent firm, dual-listed in Johannesburg and London.

With third-party assets under management of R3 trillion, Ninety One offers a wide range of funds, including a compelling South African hedge fund offering, which comprises both equity long/short and fixed income funds.

At Ninety One we believe in investing for a better tomorrow. We want to assist people around the globe to retire with dignity and meet their financial objectives by offering specialist, active investment expertise. We are a patient, long-term business offering organically-developed investment capabilities through active segregated mandates and mutual funds. Our clients include some of the world’s largest private and public-sector pension funds, financial institutions, corporates, foundations, central banks and intermediaries serving individual investors.

It all began in South Africa in 1991. After 32 years, we have grown to become an established global investment management firm. We continue to develop our owner culture and are committed to building a long-term inter-generational business. The founding leadership is still in place, offering stability and a long-term investment outlook for clients.

We are deeply committed to creating a better, sustainable future. We are conscious of our responsibility, both as investors of other people’s money and of our broader responsibility to society. Through our core investing activities, our leadership in the industry, our environmental initiatives and our commitment to our local communities, we seek to make a positive impact in all that we do.

Our overriding aim is to manage our investments to the highest standard possible and thereby exceed our clients’ investment and service expectations. Our two proven hedge fund strategies have assets under management of R527 million, and are run as an extension of our long-only process and philosophy, housed with an institutional-grade framework.

Strategy

The fund’s absolute return philosophy is based on the belief that markets tend to misprice through a combination of constrained trading (heightened risk and balance sheet management), and lazy consensus views. The team looks for opportunities when consensus views lead to crowded positions, taking advantage of mispricings using their informational network and proprietary analysis, combining both market neutral and directional views. The hedge fund toolbox incorporates gearing and the ability to use both long and short positions, with foreign exchange used as a risk mitigator.
